Tips On Testing

Top  Previous  Next

As you progress with WordBanker you will no doubt develop a method of testing that suits you but  to get you started we would like to make a few suggestions.

If you are a complete beginner we recommend you do some practice sessions before you start. Try going through the first forty unbanked words to become familiar with them before starting a test. It is important to repeat the words to yourself aloud.

Multiple Choice Testing

Look at the English word and try not to look at the multiple choices. If you think you know the translation, say it aloud and clearly. Then look at the multiple choices . If you are correct, the word should appear as one of the choices , in which case click on that word to get the answer. If you start to get really confident you have the option to cover the multiple choices.

If you are a complete beginner you may find this a little difficult. If so don't worry, just go through the tests and look at the multiple choices straight away. The important thing is to gain confidence. You can always reset a category and go back and try the above method later.

Hear Word

After you hear the foreign word, repeat it yourself aloud. Then without looking at the choices, translate the word into English aloud. Then look at the multiple choices. If you are correct, the word should appear as one of the choices , in which case click on that word to get the answer.

Type the Answer

Do the same as for the Multiple Choice (above) except type the translation as soon as you have spoken it.

General

Having banked most of the words you may find that you can't remember many of the words you banked when you started. Don't worry, this is normal. The important thing is that the words are still in your head, it's just that you need your memory jogged.
Once all the words of a category are banked we suggest you reset that category and then go through the testing again. Any words you find particular stubborn to remember you could add to your Hotlist and so eventually you can test yourself on all those awkward words.
The simplest method of testing is to choose a category, complete a session and then go back into the same category which will test you on the same words. Most of the words will be fresh in your mind and so will be easier to remember.  However if you like a challenge and are disciplined you might like to work with three different categories. i.e. Complete a session in one category, then choose another category and complete a session in that etc. When all three (or more) are done go back to the first category.
Try and set yourself a regular number of sessions each day. Little and often is best. For example, three half hour sessions at three different times of the day is far better than doing nine sessions all at the same time. One session a day is better than 3 sessions every 3 days.
Beware ! WordBanker can be very addictive !!
